World Environment Day Photography Showcase on the State of our Environment2025 – Opportunity Desk (1)

Deadline: April 30, 2025

Submit your entries for the World Environment Day Photography Showcase on the State of our Environment2025. In celebration of this year’s World Environment Day, Hivos is inviting submissions from photographers and sketch artists with original work that capture environmental degradation and climate change in Zambia. The aim of the competition is to promote grassroots picture storytelling on issues affecting our environment and everyday life.

The submissions will be used to invoke discussions with Members and Parliament on what needs to be done differently to mitigate and prevent further damage to our environment. They hope that this will be a way to excite and encourage communities to participate in debates on how the impacts of environmental degradation and climate change affect our wellbeing.

Categories

The sketches and photographs under each theme should capture the following:

  • Climate change – Drought, floods, water scarcity, energy use, health impacts like disease outbreaks etc.
  • Biodiversity loss – Deforestation, loss of animal and water species, overexploitation, sustainable agriculture, sustainable fishing and forest management, urban gardening, pollination etc.
  • Mining – Water pollution, air pollution, human displacements, tailing dams, community livelihoods vs environmental degradation, illnesses related to mining etc.
  • Environmental degradation and pollution – Waste management, plastic pollution, improper use of herbicide and pesticides, mitigating measures to the foregoing, etc.
